A mecca of the Battle of the Bulge.
The 16 December 1944, the Germans launched their last major offensive in the west. Bastogne is a goal of paramount importance that Americans must defend at all costs. Un homme, Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe, Acting Commander of the 101st Airborne Division arrives 19 December 1944 Bastogne with his division and set up his headquarters in the barracks Lieutenant Heintz. The 22 December 1944, he enters history by saying the famous "Nuts" in response to the request for surrender of the Germans surrounding the city. Cette réplique négative et brève aura un impact majeur sur le dénouement de la Bataille des Ardennes.
Since 2010, BASTOGNE BARRACKS est aménagée en Centre d’Interprétation de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Do not miss the tour of the winery "Nuts", that illustrates this central episode of the Battle of the Bulge, and multiple exhibition spaces. Vous pourrez également découvrir le «Vehicle Restoration Center », where the tanks of the Royal Museum of the Army found a new life.
